Any fan of vampire films should immediately be hooked by the premise of this one: what would you do if you lived in a place that had to deal with a month-long stretch of no sunlight as vampires are running loose? Not only that, but you're stuck in the middle of a whiteout blizzard with no real way to escape where you are.

I know I'm not the first person to say this, but these are some of the most ruthless, beastly vampires that I've ever seen in a movie before. These aren't the cape-wearing, two-fanged, sexy or tragic creatures of the night that we all know and love. These things have whole mouths of shark-like fangs that will not just bite you, but rip your throat out of your body and suck the blood right out of it. When I first saw this back in high school, this was the bloodiest and most violent vampire film that I had seen. The whiteout blizzard setting makes an amazing backdrop for the carnage as the snow keeps getting painted red with blood. Clearly, the violence is what stuck with me the most about this movie.

That being said, if you're a fan of the classic portrayal of vampires, you'll probably be disappointed with this one. With their black eyes, shark mouths and animalistic natures, the vampires here almost feel more akin to the modern-day fast zombie. None of the seduction or tragedy of the typical vampire is here, and all these things want to do is kill and eat. Even when they're acting more human, they're torturing people to use them as bait. Vampires always have an appetite, but these are pure animals with pretty much no sympathetic qualities to them at all.

Luckily for me though, I love both vampires and zombies! So, I find this movie to be extremely entertaining. If you're a gore-hound or a monster fan, check it out, especially on a cold and snowy winter night.
